It’s the best-kept secret in bathroom design: the luxury option and the safe option are the same option.

Why the Curb Was Ever There

The curb exists to keep water in — and that’s a real job. A curbless shower doesn’t skip it; it solves it properly, with the floor sloped gently toward the drain, a linear drain where the design calls for it, and full waterproofing under every inch of tile. That last part is why this isn’t a do-it-yourself project: get the slope or the membrane wrong and you’ve bought a leak, not a shower.
