• The front door: how many steps? Is there a rail? Could a walker get in?
• The bathroom: is there a tub wall to climb? Anything to hold onto? Does the door fit a walker — and can it be opened from outside if someone falls against it?
• The bedroom: is it on the first floor? Is the path to the bathroom lit at night?
• The floors: slick tile, loose rugs, raised thresholds between rooms?
• The hands: round doorknobs and twist faucets get hard with arthritis. Levers don’t.
