A great kitchen layout makes cooking a joy; a bad one fights you every day. Here’s how to get it right, starting with the work triangle.

| Layout | Best for |
|---|---|
| Galley | Narrow kitchens; very efficient |
| L-shape | Opens to dining; fits most rooms |
| U-shape | Maximum storage and counter space |
| Island | Prep, seating and storage in the center |
| Peninsula | Island benefits without the space |
In bigger kitchens we plan zones — prep, cooking, clean-up, storage — so more than one person can work without bumping into each other.
Plenty of landing space beside the range and sink is what makes a kitchen pleasant to use. We map all of this in your 3D design. See our kitchen page.
It’s the path between your sink, range and refrigerator. Keeping those three close and out of the walkway makes the kitchen efficient.
It depends on your space — galley for narrow rooms, L-shape for most, U-shape for storage, and islands/peninsulas for prep and seating.
Islands add prep space, seating and storage and are the most-requested feature — if you have the room. A peninsula gives similar benefits in less space.
Enough clear landing space on both sides of the range and sink. Skimping there makes even a beautiful kitchen frustrating to cook in.
