Mold in the shower is a moisture problem, not a cleaning problem. Here’s how good design and simple habits keep it away for good.

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own — the membrane behind them is. A shower built right resists mold from day one.
In Mississippi’s humidity, a properly sized exhaust fan vented to the outside (never into the attic) is essential. Run it during and for 20–30 minutes after every shower to pull the moisture out that mold feeds on.
Reseal grout periodically and watch the caulk lines at corners and the base — cracked caulk lets water in. Address it early. If your shower already has a mold or leak problem, it often points to a waterproofing failure worth fixing properly. See our shower page.
Usually poor ventilation and/or a waterproofing issue. A vented fan, sealed grout and squeegeeing help; recurring mold can signal a failure behind the tile.
Yes — pulling humid air outside removes the moisture mold needs. Run it during and after every shower. It’s one of the best defenses.
Roughly once a year, or when water stops beading on the grout. Keep an eye on caulk lines at corners and the base too.
Often yes — rebuilding with proper waterproofing, slope and ventilation solves the root cause rather than just cleaning the symptom.
